Lynn James - Tutor (Absolute Beginners Class) Photo: Lynn James
After studying music at London and Cambridge Universities (B.Mus., PGCE) Lynn James began her career in Dursley where, for thirteen years, she was the Director of Music at Rednock School.
Having left Rednock to bring up her children, Lynn now teaches piano, singing and the theory of music. She is well known locally for being the sometime conductor of the Ewelme and Oriana Singers.
Lynn set up and directed the New Youth Choir Club in Dursley, introducing youngsters to singing as a natural part of growing up; in doing so she gained distinction as a music teacher and is known for her energetic enthusiasm and fun approach to music making.
Lynn has great empathy for those who believe they cannot sing or experience the insecurity of being unable to read music. She has positive proof from thirty years of teaching that we can all benefit from making music with that most portable, convenient and personal of instruments, the voice. She understands that the main requirements are encouragement, confidence and a ‘learning by doing’ approach in good sociable company!
The goal of her work with Tyndale Choral Society is to combine ‘finding your voice’ with ‘demystifying the notation system’ - enabling the thrill and enjoyment of choral music-making.
